On August 15, the first day of the expulsion of the Jewish residents of Gaza,
I predicted the abuse they could potentially suffer at the hands of the government without the constraint of an honest news media:
Warning to the settlers: civil disobedience like this is a very dangerous strategy when there is only a hostile press to filter the news coverage and provide no restraint to the army's potential freedom of action.
Here is a reprise of the mistreatment of the Gaza settlers during the withdrawal.
It's happening again, although this time with greater violence. Here is a picture of Effie Eitam, one of two Knesset members
gratuitously assaulted by security forces in the demolition of the neighborhood of Amona. Eitam, a former government minister and Brigadier General, is a Yom Kippur War medal of honor winner. Of course, this "iron fist" policy had to have been approved by the Prime Minister. Apparently he believes that this is a "wedge issue" that will play well to the electorate, particularly given the left-wing press that consistently spins issue to vilify settlers.
Here, for example, was one widely reported disengagement libel that was later quietly debunked.
