Israeli Agent: Soviet Mole Framed Pollard
A former agent for Israel's intelligence service says that convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard was framed by a Soviet agent.
Ravi Eitan told Ynetnews.com that Pollard, a former U.S. Navy intelligence officer, did pass on information to Israel. But he said that claims that Pollard exposed the identities of 11 CIA agents were responsible for the life sentence in a U.S. prison he received and were fabricated by Aldrich Ames, a CIA officer who was working for the Soviet Union.
Aldrich Ames was not simply "working for the Soviet Union." He was a traitor responsible for the execution of at least 10 US agents and the compromise of at least 100 US intelligence operations.
"I'm willing to put my hand in fire and swear in everything dear to me that those charges are a blatant lie," Eitan said. "Nothing from what Pollard delivered leaked out of the Israeli intelligence community, nothing. Besides, he never provided us with information that could have exposed American agents in the Soviet Union or anywhere else."
Jonathan Pollard tried to prevent a second Holocaust against America's friend and ally, which is
now a likelihood. For that he should be honored as a hero. Bill Clinton later made an agreement with Israel to pardon Pollard
in exchange for Israel's release of 750 Arab terrorists. Clinton reneged on his end of the bargain and said that it was because CIA Director George Tenet threatened to resign over the deal. Tenet later denied the claim.
If Pollard exposed the identities of CIA agents to US enemies, then his initial sentence would have been justified. However, Bill Clinton had to have information showing that information was false in order to agree to pardon him. The fact that the US frequently reneges on agreements with only one country--a friend in need to the American people--is utterly shameful. The US government lives up to its agreements with the vilest of murderers in the form of plea bargains to "protect its credibility." It's time to show at least that level of honesty to a friend.
It is time to release Jonathan Pollard.
