This critical first step in the ideological War on Terror was opposed nearly unanimously by Democrats, who predicted failure. As usual they are wrong and unrepentant:
The U.S.-funded Arabic-language broadcasters Al Jurra and Radio Sawa said Tuesday they were reaching 35 million adults a week in the Middle East . . . . Seventy-seven percent of the Al Hurra audience said "they were interested in watching Al Hurra for the news," according to the statement. Radio Sawa listeners rated the station as one of their top two choices for radio news and information; 77 percent of Al Hurra's viewers and 73 percent of Radio Sawa's listeners consider news by the U.S.-funded broadcasters reliable. Al Hurra showed major credibility jumps from a year ago in Egypt (from 70 percent to 92 percent), Jordan (46 percent to 68 percent) and Lebanon (53 percent to 79 percent) . . . . The stations are part of the Bush administration's efforts to win over public opinion in the Middle East.
