Egypt Police Kill 'Mastermind' of Sinai Bombings

Egyptian police claim to have killed the leader of an Islamic militant group blamed for a spate of attacks in tourist resorts in the Sinai peninsula over the past 18 months.

A security official says Nasser Khamis al-Mallahi, considered the mastermind of the group, was killed in a clash with police.

The shoot out took place in Jabal Arish in north Sinai after police surrounded the area.

The incident occurred hours after Israel warned all Israelis to immediately evacuate Sinai due to an "imminent" kidnapping threat. Given the map below, however, one wonders why they needed a special warning:
