Olmert on Left Wing Daughter: She Has the Right to Speak
Why is it that the daughter of Israel's Prime Minster is permitted to
call the IDF Chief of Staff a Murderer? Why doesn't the Prime Minister censure his daughter or worse, rather than asserting that "She Has the Right to Speak?" Why is a different standard of justice and free speech applied for those who oppose the Prime Minister and his government, i.e.
Nadia Matar's upcoming trial for "Insulting a Public Servant," for comparing the actions of the former head of SELA, Jonathan Bassi with the Judenrat?
And why does Israel's MSM give short-shrift to reporting Dana Olmert's outburst while classifying Nadia Matar's letter to Jonathan Bassi as
Noxious Speech in an editorial which doesn't even mention Olmert's daughter's comments? It should be noted that by citing the abovementioned editorial, there was no intention to attack or impugn it for, in fact it bolsters the case made regarding the reality of dual standards of justice and freedom of speech in Israel.
Doesn't calling a public official "a murderer" go quite a bit beyond comparing another public official with the "Judenrat?"
Here are some examples of Israeli political leaders past and present, as well as leftists including some mentioned in the
JPost 'Noxious Speech" editorial who have made statements either comparing other Jews, the government of Israel or the IDF to Nazis or calling for violence against another segment of Jews and who were not prosecuted;
- David Ben-Gurion: Referred to Vladimir Jabotinsky as "Vladimir Hitler" or a "Jewish Hitler."
- David Ben-Gurion wrote to Haim Guri in 1963, "Begin is clearly a Hitler type, [who would] rule as Hitler ruled Germany"
- Various quotes from Shulamit Aloni including this one: "The government of Israel,... what is the justification for what happened in Jenin? We did not destroy the whole neighbourhood, just 85 houses; it was not slaughter, we killed only 50-some citizens. How many does one need to murder and destroy for it to be a crime?--A crime against humanity, as determined by the Laws of the State of Israel, not only the laws of Belgium."
- Israeli singer Yaffa Yarkoni who "was reminded of what the Nazis did to the Jews when she saw the IDF, the Israeli army, rounding up Palestinian men and boys, painting numbers on their heads. "
- Yossi Sarid, a leftwing Israeli MP,said of a cabinet minister who agitated for the forced removal of Arabs: "His remarks are reminiscent of other people and other lands which ultimately led to the annihilation of millions of Jews."
