"Have you ever noticed that views of old Jerusalem do not include synagogues? I have not and, apparently, neither have most Israelis. So, until yesterday, I was not aware of the reason.
No, it's not because there were no beautiful synagogues in Jerusalem. But because between 1948-1967 Jordan destroyed everything Jewish in the old city including two gorgeous synagogues (the 16th century Hurva and the 18th century Tiferet Yisrael which graced the city's vista and no one (not even Israel) made a peep. Just imagine the response had Israel returned the favor.
Now Israel is finally making plans to rebuild. It's more than time."
