The first sounds of bombs exploding caught me reading the paper by the pool. It was a beautiful sunny summer morning in Haifa, Israel. "It's another Kassam," said a women. "I do not think so," I responded. "We are too far from Gaza. It could be Hizbullah."
It was. The Iranians activated their second terrorist handmaidens. They opened fire along the entire border with Israel to cover up a well planned operation to kidnap more Israeli soldiers. The position from which they ran the operation was a post evacuated by Israel in 2000.
Israeli spokespersons and analysts emphasize that international law is on their side. The UN certified that Israel no longer occupies an inch of Lebanese territory.
But the BBC interviewed a professor who teaches in the American University in Beirut who referred to Israel as the "conquered land" and explained that Hizbullah has a long tradition of using kidnapped soldiers to free prisoners (terrorists) held by Israel. If Israel will do so again, she will have difficulties not to enter into similar negotiations with Hamas. After all, Israel will have difficulties fighting a two front war.
Well, Israel is fighting such a war. It entered Gaza to retrieve the soldier and stop Kassam rockets targeting (though not killing enough citizens for MSM's satisfaction) Israeli cities. Now they entered Lebanon to retrieve the soldiers and, hopefully, undermine the Hizbullah infrastructure in Southern Lebanon.
I am going to be in Nahariya tonight to watch my grandnieces in a dance recital. I hope Hizbullah shelling does not disrupt it. I have very little hope that the current developments will not lead to a regional conflagaration.
