An editorial, from the New York Sun:
Anyone with doubts about Hamas' intentions can consult its charter, which contains such gems as "Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors." Hamas represents colonialism by Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood in the West Bank and Gaza. Its ideology reeks of al-Qaeda and bin Laden. Americans know that the victims slain Monday at a restaurant in Tel Aviv are no different from those slain on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center. They are casualties in a war being levied by an enemy that aims to reestablish the caliphate and enforce Islamic law worldwide, an enemy that kills civilian women and children while Western sympathizers make excuses. Closing Loopholes
Two decisions made this week to close loopholes that compromise Israel's security are as welcome as they are overdue.
A ruling of the High Court of Justice, authorizes the government to seal off two incomplete sections of the security barrier just north of Jerusalem, in areas that connect West Bank villages to Arab neighborhoods in the eastern part of the capital.
The cabinet's move to revoke the permanent resident status that Hamas members living there have enjoyed until now.

An editorial, from the Jerusalem Post:
On the face of it, Monday's suicide bombing near Tel Aviv's defunct central bus terminal wasn't very different from numerous previous terrorist outrages. Indeed the very eatery targeted had been hit before, only a few months ago.
But there are differences, perhaps not fundamental but hardly inconsequential.
This was the first suicide bombing carried out under the aegis of the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, the terrorist PA. When previous atrocities were perpetrated, the PA - from whose bailiwick the mass-murderers set out, where they were brainwashed and trained and where the infrastructure for their operations flourished - issued obligatory wan denunciations of the deeds. This was done despite, or perhaps precisely because, power was held by Fatah, whose own members - particularly those in the Tanzim and the Aksa Martyrs Brigades - carried out some of the worst onslaughts on Israelis non-combatants.

The Frightening Truth of Why Iran Wants a Bomb, by Amir Taheri
"In Ahmadinejad?s analysis, the rising Islamic 'superpower' has decisive advantages over the infidel. Islam has four times as many young men of fighting age as the West, with its aging populations. Hundreds of millions of Muslim 'ghazis' (holy raiders) are keen to become martyrs while the infidel youths, loving life and fearing death, hate to fight. Islam also has four-fifths of the world?s oil reserves, and so controls the lifeblood of the infidel. More importantly, the US, the only infidel power still capable of fighting, is hated by most other nations."

By Sever Plocker, a left-wing columnist:
Flawed pullout predictions should make Olmert rethink his plan
Eight months after the withdrawal from Gaza, or what was referred to as a "unilateral disengagement," things are not developing according to the early scenario marketed to the public.
Almost nothing has materialized in the way pullout supporters promised us would happen.
The Gaza Strip did not calm down and the Palestinian Authority did not take matters there into its own hands in order to establish the Middle Eastern Hong Kong. Gaza is a no-man's land, the country of nobody. The Strip lacks a civilian regime, no currency, no enforcement of law and order, and most of the system tasked with providing the population with basic services is paralyzed, aside from the one run by the United Nations.

An important Jerusalem Post editorial:
According to persistent reports, a deal could be in the works to swap convicted American spy Jonathan Pollard for convicted Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti.
Pollard has been serving time for 21 years in a maximum-security federal prison in the US. Barghouti was convicted in Israel nearly two years ago on five counts of murder and was sentenced to five terms of life imprisonment plus 40 years.
Even prima facie the equation between Pollard and Barghouti is so inherently untenable that, despite the fervent desire to see Pollard set free at long last, denials that such a deal is in the works are welcome.
Pollard's espionage is no way comparable to Barghouti's homicides. Moreover, Barghouti's recidivist penchant is a foregone conclusion. In fact, once released he'd be that much more dangerous. As was the case with former Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin, years behind Israeli bars would enhance Barghouti's image and catapult him to the status of a revered hero.
Barghouti offered a clear picture of his mind-set in an interview with the newspaper Al-Ayyam published last Saturday, in which he vowed "to continue on the path of struggle and resistance," the conventional code for terror operations.
