State of the Union in Some Parallel Universe

I know that the tradition for State of the Union addresses is to project a rose-colored view of foreign affairs, but aren't these two statements a bit obscene?

we are pursuing diplomacy to help bring peace to the Holy Land, and pursuing the establishment of a democratic Palestinian state living side-by-side with Israel in peace and security.

and

The United Nations has imposed sanctions on Iran, and made it clear that the world will not allow the regime in Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

It is a sad commentary on the U.S. that the President has such a fundamental lack of understanding. Just another Pres. without the intellectual and/or moral wherewithal to be the true leader of the Free World.

I wouldn't go that far. To be fair, this kind of spin is typical of State of the Union speeches. Bush "gets it" better than any of his recent predecessors and better than the Democrats. After all, Carter bears responsibility for the birth of Islamist Iran and Clinton made Arafat the linchpin of his foreign policy according to Peace Now's hallucinatory Theory of Palestinian Centrality. Still, the exception to the Bush Doctrine that Bush granted to the Palestinians on terrorism has given a huge boost to the Global Jihad.

Iran declared war on the US again yesterday, threatening nuclear genocide on America and Israel. And Bush declares that the world has made it clear through some meaningless travel restrictions that it will not tolerate a nuclear Iran?
