Chamberlain Lives on in Jerusalem

In unusually blunt criticism, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas "blatantly violated" a promise to free a captive Israeli soldier before forming a new national unity government.

Chamberlain's deathbed lament:

Everything would have been all right if only Hitler hadn't lied to me.

Actually, the truth is that this comparison is a bit unfair. To Chamberlain. History's most famous appeaser renounced the philosophy after Hitler invaded the remainder of Czechoslovakia. Leftist whining about Palestinian broken promises is always the stormy petrel of the next concession.
