NY Times on Bestiality: 'What's the Big Deal?'

Here is an excerpt from today's New York Times review of the documentary Into the Shadowy World of Sex With Animals:

Bible-believers notwithstanding, if you eat and wear animals and agree that it?s O.K. to torture them in the name of science and beauty, what?s the big deal?

Of course, the author considers it is a reasonable premise that this is a "story of human dignity."

Per the New York Times style book, there is the de rigeur gratuitous conservative slur:

...an approach that appeals to viewers already predisposed to art and the Enlightenment, "Sesame Street" and all things not Rush Limbaugh

In other words, any fan of America's most popular talk radio show must be opposed to art, Enlightenment and Sesame Street. (Apparently this is a "America, motherhood and apple pie" neologism.)

Notice that the writer said "The Enlightenment." Since they used a determiner-the, and a capital 'E', they must be referring to the philosophical era responsible for the idea of the right to life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness being given to every one by the Creator. That era which spawned thinkers such as John Locke, Thomas Paine, Adam Smith & Thomas Jefferson. All of which the modern left despise, and those who admire the men & thoughts of this period are almost exclusively on the right... many who even listen to Rush!

No, of course there's no truth to back up the ludicrous slur that Rush Limbaugh is opposed to The Enlightenment. It is arguable that that Rush Limbaugh is the greatest popularizer of Enlightenment philosophy alive through his continuous education about the limited government ideals of the Founding Fathers, as well as his direct advancement of Adam Smith.

Two of Rush's regular guest hosts, Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams, are leading academic proponents of Enlightenment philosophies. Sowell defined the paradigm of Enlightenment philosophies in his classic "A Conflict of Visions."

A reasonable critique of Limbaugh is that he hasn't advanced beyond the Enlightenment, but why bother with facts when the sneer requires no justification? "Everyone" knows that Limbaugh is a primitive hatemonger...

Perhaps the author misunderstands what The Enlighenment was. After all, Sesame Street is pretty light on both history & philosophy.

Being anti-"Sesame Street" is another liberal code word sneer for conservatives.

It refers to the ludicrous fact that government money is spent on proselytizing for the far Left in the form of public television and radio. (For one example, here is an analysis of its extraordinary anti-Israel bias: http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=3&x_outlet=18) When conservatives complain about this, liberals charge that Republicans want to "destroy Sesame Street." Sesame Street is public television's most profitable franchise, repesenting billions of dollars in value, and would obviously continue no matter what happened to government subsidies of public broadcasting.
