The evidence Ehud Olmert gave that Annapolis was "a breakthrough" was that even the Saudi Foreign Minister applauded his speech.
Here are many news stories reporting Olmert's claim as fact.
Unfortunately, like much of the news reported about the Middle East, this story is false. The
Saudis boycotted Olmert's speech by removing their translation headphones, because Olmert delivered the speech in Hebrew. Also, the Saudi applause was a mockery--
the Foreign Minister didn't touch his hands together. This was entirely consistent with the Saudi insistence on separate doors for Jews into the hall, separate seating and a refusal to touch Jewish hands. (Despicably, the Bush administration acquiesced to these demands.)
And now you know the rest of the story.
