Abort all black babies and cut crime, says Republican
The particulars of this issue are minor, but the implications are enormous, because it is analagous to the routine libel by most news outlets against Israel as well as everything and everyone who leftists oppose.
Bill Bennett is a conservative talk radio host whose words have been thoroughly distorted for the purpose of libel. There is no way to read a transcript of his words in the way they are being widely characterized by the mainstream media. This is not a case of multiple possible interpretations.
Bennett was responding to a fellow pro-life caller who suggested that a pro-life argument could be made that abortion harms Social Security. Bennett responded that he was against the concept of pragmatic arguments against abortion, only moral ones. He supported his contention with a
reductio ad absurdum argument that one could conceivably present a premise that aborting blacks would cut crime. Lest someone twist his words, he immediately emphasized that "that would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do." The feeding frenzy surrounding the charge of racism against Bennett is based on a triple distortion:
1. it lifts the previous sentence out of context and stops the quote prior to his emphasis that such an idea is "morally reprehensible"
2. it pretends to understand his meaning in an exactly opposite way than he actually said
3. it ignores Bennett's life-long, highly vocal opposition to abortion
Among the worst libelers is nationally syndicated liberal talk-host Ed Shultz, who claimed Bennett is "advocating the murder of all black babies."
