As if on cue, the mainstream media (MSM) has been parroting the word "hawk" regarding Congressman John Murtha in thousands of permutations such as these:
Democratic Hawk Urges Iraq Pullout
Former Hawk Turns against Iraq War
Democratic Hawk and War Veteran Wants US Troops Out of Iraq Now
Lawmaker Returns Home, a Hawk Turned War Foe
The problem is that it's not true, as these two articles demonstrate:
Reconstructing Murtha:
Congressman Murtha?s statements last Thursday ? contrary to the way they?ve been depicted by his party members and a disturbingly fawning press ? are not only nothing new, but, instead, largely representative of the views Murtha has been expressing on this subject for more than three years.
Will The Real Murtha Stand Up?:
Contrary to popular opinion, Rep. John Murtha, the decorated ex-Marine who called for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, is no hawk.
Now there is word that
Murtha urged withdrawal from Somalia in 1993.
The MSM is fatally oblivious of a business lesson: opinion leaders cannot be alienated without an eventual precipitous loss of market share.

Update 2 (Nov. 23):
Reconstructing Murtha III: It?s a Somalia Deja Vu
It is now approaching 48 hours since the story broke, and the results of a Google news search suggest that not one mainstream media outlet has decided to pick this story up
