From
Israel National News:
Former IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Ya?alon said in an interview with the New York Sun on Thursday that Iraq moved its chemical weapons to Syria six weeks before the war started.
"He transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria,? said Ya?alon. ?No one went to Syria to find it.?
This is another in a string of assertions to that effect, including Prime Minister Sharon and US intelligence sources. There are two aspects to this story that are interesting.
The first is that it is
virtually unknown that the largest attempted terror attack in history was a
chemical weapons attack that Jordanian officials estimated would have killed 20,000 if successful. The chemicals originated in Syria.
The second is that it is further evidence that the most controversial Internet news source, Debka, is worth paying attention to. Debka had this story, including satellite photos of truck convoys from Iraq to Syria prior to the Iraq war. Of course, Debka has been an wild card with spectacular scoops as well as pure misinformation, but this is likely due to the nature of the underlying intelligence leaks it receives.
