Carter: Hamas Involvement in PA Elections Good

Former US president Jimmy Carter expressed optimism Friday over Hamas?s participation in next week?s Palestinian parliamentary elections.

Carter told CNN in an interview that although Hamas were "so-called terrorists," so far "there have been no complaints of corruption against [their] elected officials."

He conceded that "there is an element within Hamas who deny Israel?s right to exist," but compared the current situation to negotiations with the PLO, which was still outlawed as a terrorist organization during his presidency.

He drew an additional comparison with Menachem Begin?s rise to Israel?s premiership in the seventies. "The Irgun, to which Begin belonged, was also characterized as a terrorist organization," he noted.

Jimmy Carter is one of a string of Democratic party heads, including Gore, Kerry and both Clintons, who have demonstrated utter moral blindness, primarily after leaving office. The reason that most of them were liars is that they are unelectable radical leftists at the core. They learned from Walter Mondale that landslide defeats are the result of honesty. Mondale had admitted his "courage" to raise taxes. Unfortunately the current Democratic party leadership contains only a few non-leftists, such as Joe Lieberman.

Carter once said Americans suffered from "an inordinate fear of communism." It was by such reckoning that he shifted blame for a ruthless, dictatorial system (that murdered upwards of 150 million people) to the American people rather than the Bolsheviks and Maoists that propagated it. Now, he is a step away from blaming Israel for the terror it suffers from the likes of Hamas. That such a man could rise to be president is, regrettably, a horrible recommendation for democracy. He's a complete disgrace.

That man is moron,

he does not speak for me and mine. Personally I wish someone would muzzle him and put him in a nice cozy nursing home for the rest of his days.
Its the likes of people like him that claim to speak for the rest of us in the U.S.A. that causes problems for one and all.

There is something genuinely and willfully perverse in Carter's rationale. On one level it's not impossible to think he is expressing a kind of hope, a naive or quixotic hope, one which ignores to the point of self-blinded ignorance overwhelming amounts of evidence. And that's the very best interpretation one can give to this, which is itself profoundly wanting in real-world assessments and accompanying gravitas.

The worst interpretation is that he perforce is morally and intellectually so dull of conscience and so preposterously imbalanced as regards his ability to weigh all the evidence that he's inextricably habituated himself into a deeply obtuse avoidance of those raw facts which don't fit his preferred outlook.

Neither possibility is good.

Just today, Jan. 1, 2006, the CounterTerrorism Blog has a post entitled "Hamas still calling for the end of the Zionist entity". It opens as follows:

Even though some recent reports have shown a supposed change of heart from the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, a top leader made things clear on Al Jazeera on January 18.
In that interview (provided by Proche-Orient info), Ismael Hania stated that Hamas' electoral platform includes the? end of the Zionist entity".

He added: "The Islamic resistance movement Hamas is not changing any of its main goals. Dialogue with Israel is not on Hamas' agenda. Hamas does not recognize the Zionist entity and views resistance as the only way to fight the occupier."

He is not saying he fully support hamas. He is saying give them time to change. By the way he is right about the irgun. Remember the King David bombing. A lot of civilians died in that incident. If the irgun can change, so can hamas. By the way , I may not be jewish but I am no anti-semite and I had jewish classmates in high school.
